Mythway Dev Log #2 – Starting from Square One

It is Canadian Thanksgiving and it has been a tradition of mine to update my blog each season.

I’ve started getting back into game development with Godot thanks to the Roguelike Godot code I found here as noted in my last post.

I am trying to immerse myself in understanding Godot v4.5 and how the different objects work together. My previous work on Heropath had me following various tutorials which gave me some understanding, but this time I am trying to review the code and objects and see how they are all tied together. There is lots of learning taking place which is fun.

As far as the game is concerned, I am working on creating a demo of the player walking around a randomized map. The map will not be a dungeon but instead will be a 19th century town. I have not gotten very far.

Here is a picture of the player character in the starting town square.

Very modest progress. Truly baby-steps for a baby-developer but I find it fun to track these modest advances.

Thank you so much for reading to the very end. On this Thanksgiving I remain thankful for my family and fortunate circumstances. I wish others the good fortune I have had.
